Spring Summer 2018 Trends

Every year comes the long-awaited season, when everyone leaves their business for later, takes a vacation closer to the sea and the sandy beach. If you’re wearing the same two-piece you’ve had since that family beach trip 10 years ago, you might want to consider an upgrade. And, whether there’s an upcoming sandy getaway on your calendar, or you’re just looking for some quality lounge chair time, the approaching season is reason enough to give those suits a reinvention.

When choosing the optimal swimsuit design, you have to focus on the silhouette, age and fashion trends of the season. Swimwear 2018 will allow you to hide imperfections and accentuate the silhouette and also respect fashion trends. Celebrities have been donning the newest of beachwear trends…Hailey Baldwin picked a loose shirt tied at the waist. In cotton or linen, white or stripy, it’s our beloved urban shirt. Ample proportions and gypsy vibes work for Alessandra Ambrosio and Jessica Alba who chose to wear a loose caftan or an oversized outfit, while Dua Lipa revisited the sarong with a hot twist. Chic solutions do it for Adriana Lima’s black mesh cover-up and Olivia Palermo’s white cotton shirt dress. Celebs at the beach also love to wear classic T-shirts…see Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez; while Britney Spears opts for her beloved denim shorts. What better way to get through a white winter than by dreaming about and shopping for the latest in Spring/Summer 2018 beachwear trends? That is where this report comes in.

Racy Lingerie-Style Swimsuits

We have mentioned the lingerie-style swimwear multiple times in this summer 2018 swimsuit trend report, but it definitely needs its own category here. We see some incredibly gorgeous pieces, some more enticing partners while others add a dash of dominance. What all share in common is the fact that they appear as lingerie despite being part of the swimwear collection and all have some form of super sexy or, in this case, a racy aspect to them.

How appropriate many of these looks are for the water though, we don’t know, as we see cover-ups in sheer lace and high slits, lacy additions to simple plunging neck one-piece creations, bustier-style looks, baby doll cover-up effects, ruffled solutions, and more.

Minimalist Bralettes

Bralettes aren’t going away anytime soon. They’ve broken down the walls between bras being a confidentially hidden item and being considered casual wear to expose. We’ll happily add them to our swimsuit drawer.

Cut-out one-pieces

This look both covers up and reveals just enough, making it one of the sexiest looks of the season. The most popular come in the form of side cut-outs, which show off the top of your abs.

Off-The-Shoulder Tops

The off-the-shoulder style has been a huge trend in clothing for two seasons strong and now it’s migrated fully to swimwear.

High-Waisted Bikini

This retro-inspired silhouette has made a huge comeback in recent years and this summer, it’s even hotter than ever. And for good reason…it is made to accentuate your waist.

Rainbow Bright

As swimsuit designers step away from the popular string bikinis of the past few decades, more material means more room to play. Rainbow stripes have already taken over 2018 and they are here to stay…we’re seeing an explosion of bright colours on one-pieces and high-waisted bikinis alike.

One-Piece, One Strap

So often we find asking ourselves, ‘Are the tan lines worth it’? It’s the reason we drool over criss-cross six-piece swimsuits but only purchase the bandeau bikini. But, the one-piece, one strap trend is something we’ll definitely be splurging on. Plus, they make great bodysuits for your after-beach dinner.

Ruffles

This flirty detail, one of Spring’s hottest trends overall, looks even more feminine when found on swimwear.

Crochet

Crochet swimwear has evolved beyond simple colours. Now, the popular way to wear this knitted material is by choosing a mismatched style.

Shelf Bra Tops

Yes, this is so simple! But its simplicity is what makes it so popular and a total new celeb favourite. With social media mavens like Emily Ratajkowski and the Kardashian clan on board, you’re sure to see this silhouette all over the beaches this summer.

Lace-Up Details

This look is not about a specific silhouette, rather a simple detail that has major impact. Look for it in all forms, from tiny details to navel-grazing statement pieces.

Neoprene

Neoprene…that soft, lightweight fabric traditionally used for making wetsuits is like the leather of summer. It’s being used in everything, from stylish skirts to pants to t-shirts.

T-Shirt Dress

There are so many cute t-shirt dress options that, when paired with some cute sandals and a straw hat, can take you stylishly from the beach to the bar.

A Tank and Baggy Shorts

A staple you may already be rocking this season—the baggy short—transitions easily into the perfect bikini cover-up. Any tomboy style will do—a rolled-up army short, 501 cutoffs, and elastic waist lounge shorts. Just add an easy, loose tank, and you are good to go.

Harem Pants

Love ’em or hate ’em, these loose and lovely pants are the perfect cover-up for a bikini. Look for solid colours, like black or white, or a printed pair, which can bring life to a basic black suit.

Total Crop Top

The crop top fashion has been sweeping the runways. You don crop tops with sheer panelling or those with strategic cut-outs that complement your body perfectly; the high-neck bikini trend really doing wonders.

Swimsuits with Laced Siding

Straps are huge these days; we see the look come in multiple styles, from halters to spaghetti straps, push-ups and deep V-necklines, with bows over the thighs or the lacing appearing more as cut-outs.

Nude in Colour

If you love showing skin but like being modest at the same time, this is probably the closest you are going to be to looking naked on your trip to the sea. You are showing off just enough but still covering up the essentials, while enjoying the neutrality of nude and the extra stares you’ll be getting.

Go for string bikinis or deep V-necklines, push up styles to the bras or very simple high on the hip-cut one-piece designs.

Shades of Yellow

Yellow is a huge colour trend for spring 2018, appearing in everything from sunshine to banana to buttercup and more. It appears in summer 2018 swimwear trends as well, from lighter neon to almost nude, in single shoulders or double, bikinis or one-pieces.

The hue is a great one for the season and since swimming and sunshine go together like two peas in a pod, we cannot help but revel in the colour choices of the designers.

Plethora of Prints

While the simple colours and even the contrasting colour blocks appear all over, the plethora of prints is hard to overlook when checking out the Spring/Summer 2018 swimwear trends. We get to see lots of tie-dyes, chevron stripes, global ethics, scarf prints, ombre or geometrics, all of them bringing in colours and shapes that we can fully enjoy as we strut out to the pool or beach.

Orange, coral, teal or pink are seen throughout and the bright neon colours are truly appreciated for the spring and summer months.

Creative Cover Up

Sarongs used to do the trick or simple robes pulled over your swimwear. Now, designers have given us a more modern, more intriguing option to look into, with cover-ups that range in designs and style, cuts and transparencies, and give us all kinds of different layers. These include sheer pants alongside open weave tops and long-sleeve wraps among others.
