High-waisted bottoms

These bottoms flatter any figure and height and this season, high-waisted bottoms are going to be in vogue. Whether you don one or two piece, these bottoms are trending and in a two-piece, they offer that perfect coverage you seek. A plethora of printed options, colours and ruffles are on offer from most leading swimwear brands as well in this trend.

 High-cut legs Tie-ups and downs

High-cut legs

High-cut swimwear too flatters most figures and gives an elongated appearance to the legs. Also, high-cut bikini bottoms teamed with a wide waistband flatters the waist. However, one has to be quite gutsy to don them as they expose the maximum of the wearer’s legs. So, if you’ve toned pins and would love to flaunt them, high-cut bottoms are your pick in swimwear this season.

The quintessential one piece

Much as we love the two-piece, the good old one piece can’t be overlooked and it is trending right now big time. Every show at the Miami Swim Week had included a one-piece suit for the upcoming season. Other trends of the season, such as cut-outs, prints, sleeves, etc., are included and the classic one piece is remodelled with deep V-necks and also various textures.

Retro styles

Travel back to the 80s and 90s, which are back with a bang this season and slay it on the beach in some super bright neoprene, or sporty tankini or peasant silhouettes. Or, choose retro textured swimwear to make a style statement. You can even combine some retro prints with a high-waisted bottoms and high-cut legs swimwear if you wish.

Pastel tales High waisted bottoms

Pastel tales

This season is all about pastels, so indulge in soft, light colours that are easy on the eyes and are perfect to flaunt in the mild yet sunny weather. Baby blue, lilac, powdery pink, and other soft shades are all a rage now. Besides pale pink is also the colour that was seen prominently in the colour palette of Spring 2019 Pantone colours. So, pastels it is this upcoming Spring/Summer season.

Cutouts

A range of silhouettes are in fashion this season with graphic cuts, tears, belt loops in the classic one piece that has made a comeback. Ladder-style cutouts, midriff cuts, open backs, and oddly placed cuts are all an integral feature of the one piece this time.  A variety of colours, prints and patterns are on offer in this trend as well.

Tie-ups and downs

A lot of tie-ups are in the offing this season…with string ties on the sides of the bikini lowers to bikini tops that transform into wrap-around shirts with their long ties, and even some tie-ups in unexpected places, this trend is big right now.

A mix of prints

From polka dots to stripes to paisley, all of these are big this season and the designs are simply refreshing and fun. Besides, there are regular florals (which we love so) and animal prints that were a part of designers’ collections on the runways this time. So, you have a variety to choose from when it comes to prints in swimwear.

THE INDIAN CONNECT

We spoke to some Indian swimwear manufacturers to get an overview of what they have to offer this season and here’s what they had to say…

Jawahar Bhai of Mitushi says that “Floral and digital prints are in this season. The styles for men are hipster, Jammer, square cut swim trunks and for women it is the burqini, leg suit, top-bottom set.”

When it comes to style, Mr Nand Badlani of Enkay Swimwear says that they have each and every style in their collection.

Mr Nilesh Furia of Madmax states that they keep all categories of swimwear such as sporty and new patterns, designs, prints, etc. He adds that customers look for a comfortable fit, unique and trendy designs; and all these are features of the brand’s swimwear range. Mr Badlani too agrees and says that people go for the fit and look while buying swimwear.

While Jawahar Bhai states, “Our main focus is on Indian style with a touch of western culture. We believe in following our Indian culture and are catering to Indian society thus we are researching about new trends, clothes and styles that cover more of the body.”

Over the years, though much has changed in terms of style in swimwear, and Mr Badlani says that in women’s swimwear, just like dresses, it is becoming short and micro. Jawahar Bhai mentions that consumers are becoming very price conscious and are demanding more discounts. Besides, they want fashionable products, which won’t last for long.

When it comes to the pricing, Enkay swimwear offers a range from INR 125 to INR 2999, while the Mitushi products’ pricing depends on the material used in manufacturing the product and how much of it is used. Yet, Jawahar Bhai states that their motto is to keep the price nominal and offer the best quality.
