Around 150 global fashion companies, including Burberry, H&M, Inditex, PVH Corp, have signed a United Nations-backed agreement that urges the government to align their COVID-19 economic aid and recovery efforts with science based climate action in order to recover better.
In the agreement, the companies have called for policies that will guard against future disruptions by promoting efforts to hold global temperature increase within 1.5 degree celcius above pre-industrial levels and to achieve net-zero emissions well before 2050.
According to a study published by Oxford University earlier this month, incorporating climate targets into policy and spending will reduce vulnerability to future shocks and disasters, create good jobs, cut down emissions and ensure clean air.
