At only a few months from the upcoming Miami SwimShow, which will take place from the 18th to the 21st of July, Judy Stein, Executive Director of the Swimwear Association of Florida, gives an overview of the highlights of this year’s exhibition – the last before the large-scale construction taking place in the Convention Center starting 2016 that will force the tradeshow to modify its floor plan.

What are the top trends for Summer 2015?
We have notice many big trends: high-necks, laser cuts, mesh, sporty swimwear, feminine florals, metallics, retro high waists, neoprene fabrics, bold prints, color blocking, 80’s pop and textured fabrics.

What will be the highlights of the four days?
We are striving to create a business-friendly environment in which buyers and brands can feel good. We are organizing, for example:

– Catwalk Show: SwimShow will highlight the glamour and adventure of the upcoming cruise and resort season with this annual runway show, which will be presented in a completely different format. Additionally the fashion show will be held at a fabulous new location! This dazzling catwalk show begins promptly at6pm on Sunday, July 19th, featuring a look from each of the participating brands in the tradeshow – an amazing line-up of the industry’s most exciting designers. Following the fashion show is a spectacular after party – a great way to unwind after a full day of shopping the tradeshow.
– Color & Trend Seminar: a leading trend, style, and innovation consulting agency will present key inspirations and translate them into creative scenarios, facilitating new product development through the season’s key colors, textures, prints, surfaces, and innovation techniques, inspiring all markets.
– Swim Lounge: Buyers and manufacturers can relax and unwind in the luxurious Swim Lounge, complete with comfortable seating to socialize during a break as well as table-top seating for business interactions. Free WiFi is also available. The Swim Lounge will also host a fun happy hour on Saturday and Monday evenings from 6 – 7:30pm.

Some exhibitors would prefer to exhibit during only three days. Have you considered a three-day event?
Eight years ago we reduced the number of days of the show from five to four. That decision was made by the SAF Board based on the feedback that we received from our membership and retailers about what would make the SwimShow more productive and effective for everyone. During those discussions it was decided the SwimShow needed to be a complete four days for the industry buyers to be able to fully source all of the new swimwear collections and the auxiliary products such as cover-ups, hats, sandals, beach bags, etc. Unlike other industries that have multiple seasons throughout the year and more opportunities to view brand collections, there is only one true swim season and it takes place in mid-July in Miami Beach; so if there were only three days in which to shop the largest swimwear trade show in the world, then many brands would lose their chance to be seen because buyers wouldn’t have time to walk the entire show in the span of three days.

Do you plan on developing a “fabrics” section featuring the industry’s latest fibers and products for the brands?
No, we haven’t found that there is strong interest in developing this part of the market in our show. Perhaps due to the timing of our show or the established reputation that our show has earned, our vendors come with finished samples that they are ready to show to the buyers.
