Flipkart and Amazon records sales of Rs 31,000 crore during festive season

Traders' body demands ban on Amazon and Flipkart

According to a report by Red-Seer Consulting, e-commerce giants Flipkart and Amazon recorded sales of Rs 31,000 crore ($4.3 billion) during 15 day festival period in October. The average order value for Flipkart and Amazon was recorded to be INR 1976 and INR 1462 respectively, which indicates that customer purchased higher value items from Flipkart. The report also highlighted that Flipkart’s share in terms of unit was accounted to 56 per cent whereas Amazon’s share was 44 per cent.

The net promoter score (NPS) which measures the loyalty of customers to a company improved for Amazon due to better availability and variety of electronics and fashion whereas Flipkart was supported by strong performance in smaller cities.

Both the companies are competing each other neck to neck with Amazon a percentage point ahead. Amit Agrawal, country head, Amazon India mentioned in an official blog post, “We are humbled that Amazon.in is also becoming an important driver for the new digital economy in the country.
